Christopher Reeve from Superman II: the Richard Donner Cut.

Welcome to Page Two of the CapedWonder™ Multimedia Section. Please enjoy this variety of Christopher Reeve and Superman video and audio files, many of which are very rare and unique. Some of my favorite files are the Superman-The Movie movie trailers (page two) that do not appear in any authorized Warner Bros. tape or DVD release. Thanks to Selutron, Alex Serpa, Ollie Wearne, Jerome Wybon, Supergirl's Boyfriend, ASH595 and all others for your generous contributions to these pages.

SUPER 'SELUTRON'

Selutron is not only a huge Superman fan, but a visionary. I ordinarily do not "promote" fans edits, but in this case I can't say enough good things about Selutron's Superman II clips. He used footage and individual elements re-composited from the Christopher Reeve films to create some cool clips that get your mind thinking about further possiblities with the Donner Cut. Selutron has written an open letter to Warner Bros. with the hope of seeing a new Donner Cut on DVD. Be sure to check out the comments made at Superman Cinema about Selutron's efforts.

AN OPEN LETTER TO WARNER BROS.

Dear Warner Bros.,

I'm sure that by now you are aware of my efforts related to Superman II and I thank you for interest! I'm also sure that you are aware that most Superman fans were somewhat disappointed with the long-anticipated restoration of Superman II. "What do these fans want? Surely they should be happy that they got this gift in the first place!" - you may be asking. Superman is one of your most profitable and enduring franchises, and as you know, investment, care and respect is what keeps franchises alive and profitable. Sci-fi fans can be a very passionate bunch of people, but more than that, they form the embers, which set the fire ablaze -- respect them, and millions of ordinary viewers will also come along for the ride.

Naturally, your interest is in making the greatest profit by having Superman appeal to the widest possible audience. But doing that takes investment, care and respect. For all of your much-publicized tensions with Richard Donner, one thing remains clear - his take on Superman made you billions, yes billions of dollars. No director since has managed to get it as right as he did. For that, he endured the most painful and heart-breaking fate a director could face -- being fired.

For those that were fascinated with what could have been, this was about far more than the die-hard fan's obsessions with deleted scenes -- it was about the completion of a 1970s epic two-part saga made by some of the most passionate, dedicated and creative people ever assembled on a feature film. Part one of that saga continues to make you millions -- would the DVD “Ultimate Set” have sold out so quickly if it did not feature Superman: The Movie? Unlikely. For all of it’s endlessly catalogued problems, The Donner Cut of II also sold very well. What I am demonstrating with my efforts is that there is more than enough footage to bolster the one golden egg Donner already laid for you - you have an unreleased, unrealized and complete two-part epic in your vaults. It is one that if finished properly will provide you with a great, not to mention thoroughly marketable and iconic film duology.

The 1970s Superman footage has now been recovered, sorted and catalogued. What is now required is respect, passion and creativity. Restoring Superman II properly, with the right people on board, will be the greatest investment that you can make in this franchise. It will generate goodwill, it will generate headlines and it will serve as a great marketing tool for Superman Returns II, and most importantly it will make you money. You will have Superman part I and II available for release in theatres, you could sell millions of DVDs (A Superman part I and II box-set - it would be a great hit!), the possibilities are endless - and in doing so, many new fans will flock to the new Superman films, perhaps to see General Zod in action one more time.

This isn’t about squabbles over which scene goes where, or this line versus that line, it’s about the overall completion of a vision that has never been realized. It is achievable, it is affordable, it has the support of many fans, and most importantly, it is the right thing to do. The crucial gaps can be filled, and one very important one I filled, namely an original (top- secret) ending, has already met with the approval of someone very important in the Superman world.

It will be worth it!

Sincerely,

Selutron
