A SUPER TEAM-UP TO CREATE THE SUPERMAN-THE MOVIE: RESTORED INTERNATIONAL CUT
For years now people have been discussing the possibility of an official release of Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut. Over the years several fan attempts to create a watchable version of this epic have failed. The reason for these failures is simple, the quality of these extended network TV copies around the world have been far to inferior to any theatrical or current home video release available. For sometime Alex Serpa (Superman1978.com) had been discussing restoring the extended version of the film to its original television form. Alex dabbled for many years trying to find the best possible copies in existence. Recently, he felt he had obtained enough quality footage to begin a restoration attempt on the film.
Alex eventually began the restoration of the film which included releasing some of his efforts for all to see on youtube.com. Many fans applauded his efforts as he began to dig deeper into the films restoration. But to truly have a restored version of the film you must have a quality print to work from. Enter Mr. Jim Bowers (CapedWonder™.com) whose wonderful website captures the true meaning of what a Superman is about. From long lost imagery to stories untold, Capedwonder™.com is the place to go all for all things Superman. As work continued on the project Mr. Bowers offered a special gift, his personal 16mm copy of the film to be used as a part of the restoration. Work on the project continued with the added benefit of the wonderful Bowers footage.
On or around this time another restoration attempt on the film was quietly being made by a team named PhineasBg and Nighthawks. On a small website (originaltrilogy.com), primarily known for its Star Wars roots, a discussion thread was being updated with their restoration efforts. The restoration was being edited by PhineasBg (Dune: Third Stage and Highlander 2: Special Zeist Edition) and was then being called "Superman The Movie the KCOP Cut". One day Alex paid a visit to the thread, despite the fact that he was working on the same restoration attempt he left encouragement and good faith to the editor. Later, a Bizarro World member named Wyatt Earp began talking with Alex on the website's all-new, first ever, live Superman chat room about a restoration he was involved with. Little to be known that Wyatt was actually part of the team that was working on originaltrilogy.com's KCOP Cut.
In early 2009, discussions began on a possible collaboration attempt between Superman1978.com's (Bizarro World Forum)/Capedwonder's RIC and PhineasBg and Nighthawks KCOP Cut. Each of the restorations offered something that the other did not have, so naturally a deal was struck and work began. With this collaboration a quality version of the 188 minute Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut can be released. If you've seen any version of the extended broadcasts you will probably appreciate the way it wil be presented here: watchable as possible, no commercials, no subtitles, no station ID's and uninterrupted!
Capedwonder™.com will be creating the DVD menus, box artwork and pormotional materials for the final edit. Click here to see the official teaser poster. Here are the preliminary box art concepts, as well as a layout concept that I recently completed. All designs and copy are subject to change. Final artwork will be revealed just prior to the DVD's release date (TBD).
So the big question -- When will the Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut be released? Likely not before the end of 2009 or early 2010. Register on the Bizarro World message forum and visit the thread called "Superman The Movie Restoration" for all of the details.
The material featured in Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut is in no way meant to infringe on any motion picture copyright laws, but is solely meant as a dedication to the work featured in the film and its creators. Capedwonder™.com, Jim Bowers, Superman1978.com, SupermanII.com, SupermanIII.com, SupermanIV.com or SupergirlTheMovie.com will NOT be distributors of Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut. More information will be posted on this subject later. No Blu-ray DVDs will be created from this project.

"What I do is based on powers we all have inside us; the ability to endure; the ability to love, to carry on, to make the best of what we have - and you don't have to be a 'Superman' to do it." -- Christopher Reeve.
