Christopher Reeve Superman Statue.

CapedWonder.com. CHRISTOPHER REEVE AS SUPERMAN STATUE
Sculpted by Karen Palinko for DC Direct

It’s the quintessential Man of Steel!

September 15, 2008 -- One of the most fondly remembered depictions of Superman is now available as a commemorative statue exclusively from DC Direct. Christopher Reeve strikes an iconic pose from the classic 1978 feature film Superman – the movie that made the world believe “a man could fly” and turned the actor into a star.

Standing atop an S-shield base, the Christopher Reeve as Superman Statue is a limited-edition, hand-painted, cold-cast porcelain statue measuring approximately 12.50” tall x 5.5” wide x 3.75” deep. (The base measures approximately .75” high x 6.5” diameter.) The statue includes a 4-color Certificate of Authenticity and is packaged in a 4-color box. Manufactured to order.

This amazing statue will be available on May 27, 2009, and will retail for $195.00.

Please note that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this item will be donated to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

CapedWonder.com. MY THOUGHTS ABOUT DC DIRECT'S STATUE

The DC Direct statue above is very nice, particularly the pose, 'S' shield and boots, but I feel that the sculptor missed the mark this time around. I mean absolutely no offense to Karen Palinko. I admire her work very much, especially her Batman maquette. It's just that this statue doesn't look very much like Christopher Reeve. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that the Reeve family approved this likeness.

Like the majority of other statues, paintings and drawings of Chris that I've seen over the years, the shape of his head, nose and mouth on this statue are quite obviously inaccurate. Additionally, his eyes look "droopy" and sad to me, and the belt buckle isn't even close (no excuse, considering how many photos of his belt are readily available on the Internet). Finally, look at the "Full 360 Turnaround" feature on the DC Direct webpage and you will notice that there is no yellow 'S' shield on his cape!!! I don't understand this huge mistake.

I do not mean to sound so critical of this fine piece of art, or the artist or DC Comics, especially since it's supposed to be a Christopher Reeve likeness, and this website is dedicated to Chris. But, I feel compelled to voice my opinion about it since I had really hoped that DC Comics' "official" Christopher Reeve release would be an exceptional one that stood above many of their other works, considering its significance. Christopher Reeve and his family deserve to be honored with an accurate, definitive and licensed sculpture that honestly captures Chris' portrayal as our favorite Man of Steel and Super Human Being.

Fans around the world have waited a long time for this moment. What are your thoughts? Like many of you, I'll likely be purchasing one of these statues simply because it's a fine "generic" Superman collectible and money will be going to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, of which I am a big supporter.

Portrait artist and sculptor Kristopher B. Meadows' Christopher Reeve Superman pieces are among the most accurate I've ever seen. See his first painting, second painting, and drawing of Chris. I will post a photo of his Christopher Reeve Superman custom poseable action figure (complete with fabric costume) later. Read more about Kris' 'Someone To Believe In' painting here.

CapedWonder.com. CUSTOM CHRISTOPHER REEVE SUPERMAN STATUE AND LIFESIZE BUST

The statue and bust shown below are my favorite three-dimensional pieces depicting Christopher Reeve in my collection. They were custom-designed to detailed specifications and are no longer available. It is my understanding that fewer than a dozen statues were made; and only four busts were made, with this one being the first and best casting. Super Thanks to the talented folks who put so much love, energy and attention-to-detail into creating these works of art. Click on the photos to see larger versions. Photo is by Jim Bowers. CapedWonder.com. HOT TOYS IS THE BEST COMPANY TO PRODUCE THE DEFINITIVE CHRISTOPHER REEVE SUPERMAN FIGURE!

Many of you purchased the amazing Marlon Brando Jor-el figure from Hot Toys late last year. I was personally blown away when mine arrived in the mail! It is certainly one of my most favorite Superman collectibles, and proudly sits next to my custom Superman figure by Kris Meadows (I will post photos of it soon).

Martin Lakin provided the first three photos below of the Jor-el figure. The others are the "official" Hot Toys photos. They can also be seen on their website here. Keep your fingers crossed that this company will soon make the definitive Christopher Reeve Superman figure!!
